How To Use A Camp Stove
This guide provides the basics of how to use a camp stove. If you are looking to rent cooking equipment please view our camping equipment rental page.
Step 1: Stove Setup
Find a firm, flat non-flammable surface to put the stove.
Unscrew the cap of the gold burner and fill with methylated spirits (fuel) to a maximum of two-thirds up. Place filled burner into the stand, erect the wind guard if needed and light the fuel.
Note: particularly in daylight the flame can be hard to see at first. We find it best to try and quickly but carefully light, see if the flame grows and if not try again. Don’t burn yourself!
Step 2. Assemble Pots
Fill pots with food or water, then put them on top of the stand and over the burner. The small pot can be used as a lid to speed up the boiling process.
Step 3: Using Stove
You can eat or drink directly from the pots (just make sure it isn’t too hot before putting to your lips, or transfer to the other pot before consuming).
The flame extinguisher attachment can be placed over the gold burner to regulate the flame by opening and closing it if required as pictured below (but be careful - it gets hot!).
Step 4: Packing Away
Extinguish the flame: Remove pots from stand and cover with the closed flame extinguisher (we sometimes use the burner lid if the extinguisher is hot, just be careful).
Clean: Wait for all equipment to cool down and clean thoroughly. Return all items back to their original positions/bags, ensuring you screw the cap back on the burner tightly.
Safety Tips
Always use outdoors and away from your tent
Never cook with saltwater or heat pots when empty
Do not touch the spirit burner when cooking
Fully extinguish flame before refilling fuel
Ensure the flame is fully extinguished after use and never leave unattended.
Caution and common sense should be used at all times when in use.
